Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development

A Message From Our President

At Ultident Scientific, we recognize that the scientific community plays a vital role in building a more sustainable future, and we’re proud to support that mission. As a company rooted in scientific progress, we understand the importance of reducing our environmental footprint and contributing to more responsible practices.

We’re committed to making meaningful changes that reflect the values of our customers, partners, and employees. Whether it’s minimizing waste, supporting more responsible supply chains, or offering sustainable product options, our strategy  reflects a practical and evolving approach to sustainability.

This is an ongoing journey, and we’re ready to do the work; thoughtfully, transparently, and in step with the people and communities we serve.

 President, Ultident Scientific

Key Risks and Opportunities

As a distributor, the environmental footprint of our packaging, printed materials, and internal processes is an area where we can make meaningful improvements. Transitioning toward more sustainable alternatives not only reduces our impact on natural resources and materials sent to landfills but also aligns with growing customer expectations around environmental responsibility and circularity. This area presents both a challenge and a clear path forward, and we are actively exploring solutions that prioritize recyclability, reusability, and digital alternatives.

Strategic Goals Overview

  • Reduce Environmental Impact: Minimize carbon footprint and waste production through resource efficiency, energy-saving practices, and sustainable packaging solutions including a focus on biodegradable products and transitioning to products primarily made from recycled materials.
  • Improve Operational Efficiency: Implement practices that reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact, such as optimizing shipments to reduce transport emissions and improving energy efficiency across facilities.
  • Promote Circular Economy: Encourage recycling and reuse of products and packaging to extend lifecycle and reduce waste, including reuse of incoming shipping materials where possible and clear labeling for end-user recycling.
  • Enable Sustainable Choices for Customers: Offer sustainable product options made from high-purity, recyclable materials and clearly communicate their environmental benefits to support informed decision-making.
  • Engage and Influence the Supply Chain: Collaborate with manufacturers and suppliers to incorporate green chemistry and engineering principles into product design, and explore shared environmental targets related to packaging and energy use.
  • Raise Environmental Awareness and Education: Engage stakeholders, including employees and customers, to promote sustainability through education and everyday practices

SMART Goals (2025–2026)

To guide our sustainability efforts, we’ve developed a set of SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) objectives designed to ensure accountability and track meaningful progress over time.

Objective 1: Quantify Scope 1 and 2 Emissions

  • Goal: Complete quantification and report Ultident Scientific’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by Q4 2025 to establish a baseline for future reduction targets. Over the same period, evaluate at least two potential emission-reduction strategies (e.g., eco-driving training, EV options for company vehicles).

Objective 2: Strengthen Supplier Alignment on Environmental Goals

  • Goal: Initiate sustainability conversations with at least three key suppliers as contract negotiations arise by Q4 2026, focusing on packaging materials, energy efficiency, and environmental product declarations with the aim of aligning on shared environmental goals.

Objective 3: Promote Circular Packaging Practices

  • Goal 3a: Quantify the percentage of reused incoming shipping boxes by Q4 2025 to establish a baseline for increasing reuse in our operations.
  • Goal 3b: Ensure that 100% of newly purchased shipping boxes are primarily made from recycled and certified materials by the end of 2025.

Objective 4: Support Biodiversity Through Operational Environmental Practices

  • Goal 4a: Transition to eco-certified cleaning products for all office and warehouse locations by the end of 2025, reducing the release of harmful chemicals into the environment and improving indoor air quality for employees.
  • Goal 4b: Plant at least 100 trees annually in Canada to help restore local ecosystems, support biodiversity, and contribute to carbon sequestration.

Objective 5: Enhance Employee Well-being

  • Goal 5a: Implement “Summer Fridays” by June 2025, allowing employees to end their workday at 4:00 p.m. on Fridays during June, July, and August to support work-life balance.
  • Goal 5b: Install a dedicated beverage bar with herbal teas and coffee in the office by Q2 2025 to promote comfort and wellness in the workplace. Prioritize fair trade products to support ethical sourcing and raise awareness about the health and wellbeing of workers in the tea and coffee supply chains.

Continuous Improvement

In 2025, we appointed a Sustainability Officer who reports directly to the President and oversees the advancement of our sustainability commitments across the organization.
To ensure ongoing momentum and accountability, Ultident Scientific will conduct quarterly internal reviews to monitor progress on our SMART goals, assess emerging risks and opportunities, and refine our actions as needed. These check-ins will drive meaningful change and ensure our strategy remains current and impactful.
